Tick & Mosquito Treatments

Tick and Mosquito Treatments in Spokane and North Idaho

Take your yard back for the summer. Family-owned since 2016. Licensed and insured.

Lakes, rivers, timber and tall grass make this a beautiful place to live, and a good place to be a tick or a mosquito. Our tick and mosquito treatments cover the yard, the edges and the shady spots where they wait, so the deck, the lawn and the kids’ play area are yours again from spring through the first frost.

Ticks in the Inland Northwest

The Rocky Mountain wood tick and the American dog tick are the common ones here, most active from April through July. They wait in tall grass and brush along trails, fence lines and the edge of the woods, and climb aboard pets and people walking past. Ticks in our area can carry Rocky Mountain spotted fever, tularemia and Colorado tick fever. Deer, wild turkeys, mice and the family dog bring them to the yard.

Mosquitoes around Spokane and Coeur d’Alene

Anywhere water sits for a week, mosquitoes breed: lake and river frontage, irrigation, low spots in the lawn, gutters, bird baths, kiddie pools, the saucer under a planter. Adults rest during the day in shaded, damp vegetation: under decks, in shrubs and ivy, along the north side of the house. Our season runs roughly May through September, with the worst of it in June and July.

How the treatment works

  1. Inspection. We walk the property and find the breeding water and the resting spots.
  2. Barrier treatment. We treat the vegetation, shaded areas, under decks and porches, fence lines and the edge of the woods or field, where ticks wait and mosquitoes rest.
  3. Standing water. We treat water that can’t be drained with a larvicide that stops mosquito larvae and is labeled safe for birds and pets, and we show you what to dump or fix.
  4. Repeat through the season. Treatments last about 3 to 4 weeks, so we come back every month from May through September to keep the yard covered, and we stay on it longer when the season runs late.

Products are chosen for the site and applied by the label, with your family, pets and pollinators in mind: we don’t treat blooming plants, and we work around hives.

One-time treatments for events

Backyard wedding, graduation party, family reunion? A single treatment a day or two before the event keeps the mosquitoes off your guests for the evening. Call with the date and we’ll work it in.

Pricing

Price depends on the size of the yard and how much vegetation there is; we quote it before we start, and there is no initiation fee, so the number we quote is the number you pay. Most companies charge $250 or more just to get started; with us that money stays in your pocket. Current plan customers: ask about adding it to your regular visits.

A word on what to expect. Ticks and mosquitoes are different from ants in the kitchen: they live outside, they fly or ride in from the neighbors’ and the lake, and no treatment on earth removes every one. What works is keeping the pressure on. The seasonal program, treated every month, is what keeps the yard usable all summer; a one-time treatment is for an event, buys you a few good weeks, and is sold as exactly that.

What you can do

  • Dump standing water weekly: bird baths, buckets, tarps, kiddie pools, plant saucers.
  • Clean the gutters so they drain.
  • Keep grass mowed and brush cut back along fences and the tree line; ticks need the shade and height.
  • Make a three-foot gravel or wood-chip border between the lawn and the woods.
  • Keep pets on a vet-recommended tick product; check them after walks.

Questions we hear

Is it safe for my dog and the kids?

Yes, once the treatment has dried, usually within an hour. We tell you exactly how long to wait.

What about the bees?

We keep bees ourselves. We don’t treat blooming plants or flowers, we time applications when pollinators aren’t active, and we target the resting spots mosquitoes use, not the flowers bees use.

Will it get rid of every mosquito?

No, and nobody honest will tell you otherwise. It knocks the population down hard and, on the monthly program, keeps it down. Mosquitoes fly in from the neighbors’ and from the lake, so you may still see one or two on a still evening; you won’t be eaten alive.
